Tribal Education Department

Tribal Education Director:
Barry Phillips

Bozho! My name is Barry Phillips, son of Alice (Pigeon) Phillips, and grandson of Sampson and Eliza (Medawis) Pigeon. I’m a tribal member and also Tribal Education Director. I went to school in Union City. I attended Kellogg Community College and earned a B.A. degree from Western Michigan University in education. My major is English (minor is French). With my certification in secondary education, I taught one year at Battle Creek Lakeview and two years at Saginaw Chippewa Academy, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan before moving back to our tribe when this department started. I’m a licensed soccer coach and have coached at the high school and college levels for both genders.
