Tribal Environmental Director: David B. Jones

I graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a B.S., Petroleum Engineering. I have worked in the environmental field since 1990, when I began working for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Region 6 in Dallas. In 1997, I went to work for a large engineering firm dealing with environmental concerns. Then in 1999, I provided independent consulting services to a variety of State and Federal clients. I was hired as the Tribe’s Environmental Director in March 2002 to oversee the coordination of all the environmental programs/grants and work towards increasing the Tribe’s environmental capacity. I have been married for 10 years and have two children, a 8-year old boy and a 6-year old girl. My family and I live in a rural area outside Gobles, MI where we like to spend time outdoors gardening and taking walks in the woods. I enjoy reading, woodworking and hunting in my spare time.

Tribal Brownfields Coordinator: John Rodwan

I am employed with the Tribe as the Brownfields Coordinator in the Environmental Department. As a lifelong Michigan resident with a love of nature and the environment I obtained a M.S. degree in geology from Western Michigan. My 20+ year career began as a District Geologist with the State of Michigan working with environmental compliance issues. From there I was employed with engineering and environmental firms where I gained considerable experience with hydrogeologic investigations, soil and groundwater cleanups, hazardous materials management programs, site assessments and brownfields studies. I have resided in the Battle Creek area for the past 16 years with my wife and two young boys. My wife is a high school geology teacher and my personal interests include woodworking, gardening, forestry and local history. Working with the Tribe gives me the opportunity to merge my career with my personal interests and focus them on a single goal.

Tribal Air Quality Specialist: Kathy Mackety

Boozhoo!! My name is Kathy Mackety and I am currently employed at Huron Potawatomi, Inc. as the Newsletter Editor for the “Turtle Press” and I am also the Air Quality Specialist for the Tribe through the Environmental Department. I have worked with the tribe for 4 years (one of which was seasonal for the Youth Camp). I am happily married to Alan Mackety (tribal member) and we have just celebrated our 6 year anniversary. I have 3 beautiful children: daughter – Mercedes (11) and sons – Alan (7) and Chazz (8). In 2003, I graduated from Kellogg Community College with my Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems and I began taking courses in April 2005 to obtain my Bachelors Degree through the University of Phoenix (On-ground campus in Kalamazoo). So far I have maintained a 3.5 GPA and have only missed 1 day of class. This has been very challenging at times due to a full time job and being a full time mom, but I am always up to a good challenge. The Tribal Newsletter has given me the extra practice on my writing skills as well as information to utilize throughout my education and career. Miigwettch!
