Director of Law Enforcement: Craig W. Schwartz
I am the new Director of Law Enforcement for the Tribe and have the responsibility of
establishing and commanding the Tribe’s first Tribal Police Department. I am looking forward to
getting to know the Tribal Members and providing first-rate police services to the Tribal community.
I was born and raised in Detroit and I am divorced with two children; one of whom is still in
high school, the other is attending college and serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
I come to the Tribe with nearly 30 years of police experience; having started out as a
Cadet at the age of 18. I have worked for a few different police agencies including: the
Macomb College Police, the Plymouth Police Department and the Grosse Pointe Park Department
of Public Safety. The majority of my career, however, was spent with the Detroit Police
Department, where I served in all ranks from Police Officer to Deputy Chief. I have experience
in a wide variety of assignments including having held command of the Homicide Section, Major
Crimes Division, Criminal Investigations Bureau and Homeland Security Bureau in Detroit as
well as the 2nd and 6th Precincts. Other assignments included the Violent Crime Task Force, the
Headquarters Surveillance Unit and the Underwater Recovery Team.
I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Madonna University and post-graduate coursework
from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Virginia. In addition,
I am a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Eastern Michigan
University School of Police Staff and Command and the Michigan State
Police Manager Development School. I am a firm believer in building
positive community partnerships and forging a responsive, professional
police organization providing the highest level of service possible to the
Tribal community.
